Thought For The Week - Voting Values

"It's not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are." -- Roy Disney

Well today is election day and I hope all of you have exercised your God given privilege to vote. This has been the most passionate election that I can remember. There seems to be no neutral parties. It is not that the candidates have such charisma and personality, but there followers are entrenched and passionate. This has even been a topic in the 1st Grade classroom and Mackenzie has come with questions. What a great opportunity to discuss values and why we choose one person over another. Because of this, Shay and I decided to take her with us and vote together as a family this morning. Mackenzie was able to walk through the process and help her Daddy vote for the first time. While she may only remember getting to touch the screen, I hope she always remembers the values that caused her to push the buttons that she pushed. May it never be about Republican or Democrat but about values. I think that the quote above holds a lot of truth. When you have a solid value system, it makes tough decisions easier. We can cut through the gray that seems to surround so many decisions. This challenges you and I as to what is our value system and is it Biblically based. If you are not sure think about this, how did you decide who to vote for? Was it the economy, health care, taxes, or was it something else?

For those of you who don't know, I teach 5th grade. We have been able to have some very good conversations about the election process and voting this year. I have tried to explain to them about voting for the person you agree with...not voting for them because of their gender, race, etc.

I am proud to say that I voted today and all I can do know is pray that God's will be done. No matter which man makes it to the White House, God is in CONTROL!!!

PS...Zach, feel free to add my blog to your list!

I voted for Obama along with the overwhelming majority of the electorate. It was simply an amazing night in American history. It wasn't a black/white issue. In fact a big group of Obama supporters were highly educated white women (that would be me). This was the group of women that was suppose to flock to Palin but didn't. McCain should have chosen Mitt Romney. No matter who we voted for, today is a day to put differences aside and back our new President. We can all agree that he will need lots of our prayers and support...whew...he has a big mess to clean up!!!

Bev - Thank you so much for your comment and especially for exercising your God-given right to vote. Satan has used many things to try and cause division among God's people. He has used race, standards of dress, music, and politics just to name a few. Unfortunately, many have allowed these to have an impact on God's work in their life and this world. I 100% agree with you that our leaders should have 1) respect for the position they hold and 2) daily prayer that God will guide their decisions. May we as an ABF and church always strive to stay unified around the essential fundamentals of our faith that bind us all together in order to fully accomplish what God has called us here to do. Thanks again for your comment. You and Heath are a blessing to us.
